Cycling and walks in West Sussex are a great way to enjoy the outdoors whilst getting some exercise.
Sumners Ponds is based in Barns Green, West Sussex, and is surrounded by woodland, fields, and beautiful views.
Whether you want to take your dog for a walk or cycle with friends, there is a path and route for all ages and abilities.
Walking Routes
There are many walking routes you can take through Sumners Ponds, as you can see on our site map. Our campsite is surrounded by beautiful woodland, blooming trees and humming with wildlife.
If you’re an avid walker or cyclist, there is a great route that leaves from Sumners Ponds and takes you straight onto The Downs Link at Christ’s Hospital (roughly halfway along The Downs Link). From here you can head North to Guildford or South to Shoreham-by-sea.
Park your car for free at Sumners Ponds, put on your best walking shoes, grab your partner, and set off on this scenic route!
Our Cafe by the Lake is also open, so come and grab a sandwich and a hot/cold drink before or after you set off.

Dog Meadow
If you would like to take your dog for a walk, but need a more secure and safe area, then our Dog Meadow is perfect for you!
It is three acres of beautiful Sussex farmland and woodland for exclusive, personal hire – just you and your four-legged friend.
The Dog Meadow at Sumners Ponds Fishery & Campsite is the perfect place to let your dog run free in a safe and secure environment. Specially designed, six-foot fencing with smaller mesh at lower levels should ensure peace of mind for any dog owner.
There is parking for one car outside the enclosure and fresh drinking water is provided.

Cycling in Sussex
As mentioned above, we have perfect access to The Downs Link for bike rides, which is very popular amongst cyclists.
The Downs Link is a 37 mile (59km) route that links the North Downs Way in Surrey with Shoreham-by-Sea in West Sussex.
This route is shared by walkers, cyclists, and horse riders, so be careful and considerate.
Our Cafe by the Lake welcomes all, even cyclists with their bikes, so why not stop off for a refreshment and a bite to eat? We look forward to welcoming you!

Sussex Literary Trail
Horsham has an amazing literary trail that opened in 2007 and connects Horsham to Chichester Cathedral, crossing the West Sussex Downs.
This trail is 87km long and has many literary associations which bring the walk alive! You can find more information and buy a guide on their website.
If you wanted to do the full route, why not use our camping site or glamping accommodations to rest in between days? See more information on our “Staying at Sumners” page.
