Looking for a nice family day out or a camping holiday in the UK? Why not pop to Sumners Ponds in Barns Green (Near Horsham, West Sussex).

The summer holiday is approaching and finding things for the kids (and yourselves!) to do every day can be tricky. 

Sumners Ponds has got plenty of attractions and activities for you to do with the family. Including visiting our working farm, camping, caravanning, fishing. With lots of beautiful places to walk around our site, and lots of room for the kids to play!

The Cafe by the Lake

If you get a little peckish or a bit thirsty, then our Cafe by the Lake is a great place to stop by for a takeaway drink and some breakfast/lunch/dinner.

Family Friendly

Sumners Ponds is family-friendly, as many of our customers have found:

The Dog Meadow

If you’re thinking of bringing your four-legged friend, then our new Dog Meadow is perfect for off-the-lead walks, as it is a fenced-off area with no other dogs.

You will have peace of mind that your pooch won’t run off and they will have the area to themselves.

Camping & Fishing Checklist

Whether you’re coming to Sumners Ponds for a day trip or an overnight stay, don’t forget to bring everything you may need, for example, some good walking shoes/walking boots, sunscreen, sleeping bags, a good tent, etc.

Sumners Ponds’ Working Farm

Sumners Ponds’ working farm has a beef herd of around 100 cattle.

They are a mix of Simmentals (various colours with white faces), Aberdeen Angus (black), Belgian Blue (grey/black and white), and native Sussex (brown/deep red).

In the summer they graze out in the fields, if you see them take a picture and tag us on Instagram @sumnersponds! 

Sumners Farm is also home to a large brood of chickens, a small flock of sheep, and three Shetland ponies – perfect for kids who love animals!

Branching Out

If you’re looking for things to do around Sumners Ponds (Barns Green), then there is a great local pub, The Queens Head, which offers traditional pub food, real ale, a beer garden, and a small function area. It’s also within easy walking distance via footpaths on the farm and campsite.

If you need to grab any bits and pieces, then Barns Green Village Stores is open from 7am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 5pm on Sundays. The store offers an excellent range of groceries including a well-stocked deli and off-license.

There is also a small children’s playground on the village green which can be reached via footpaths and so avoiding the road.

Southwater’s main attraction is its Country Park which offers a variety of recreational activities including an adventure-style play area, orienteering course, and tuition in canoeing, sailing, and windsurfing. The Park also includes a wildlife area.

Disabled Friendly

Sumners Ponds is a accessible fishery for those with a disability. The best lakes to fish are either Farm Pond or Betty’s Lake.

Farm Pond has a purpose built accessible platform with a ramp from the ajoining car park. This spaceous decked area has three large swims which are all disabled priority. The car park for this lake is directly next to the closest fishing swims so there is not far to travel with your equipment.

Betty’s Lake has two disabled parking areas which are very close to the nearest wood-chipped swims.
