How to store camping equipment

How to store camping equipment | camping bag and equipment

Some of you may want to pack your camping gear away when it gets colder outside, so here’s how to store camping equipment properly so you can use it again next year!

Camping storage tips

Making sure you store all your camping equipment properly will save you from having to buy it new the next time you want to use it on your exciting camping trip.

It prevents mould from growing, and any other nasty smelly bacteria from festering.

So here are our camping storage ideas:

Clean and dry

After you’ve gone camping, and before you put your tent, sleeping bag etc away, even just for a week, you need to make sure it is clean and dry.

Make sure to read the care instructions on each item before you clean it, as you don’t want to ruin it!

Letting it dry fully is vital, as moisture and warmth is the perfect breeding ground for mould, which could ruin your expensive camping gear!

And not only should you be cleaning the tent and sleeping bags, but also the pots and pans, cutlery, cups etc! Run them through the dishwasher, so you know they’re nice and clean and won’t grow mould whilst in storage.

Repairing camping equipment

Not repairing your gear before storage means it’s either something that you’ll have to do when you get it back out, or storage could make it worse.

Camping equipment isn’t cheap, so looking after it is vital in getting the most out of it!

Storing your camping gear

Make sure to store your camping equipment, such as your tent, sleeping bags, and camping chairs, in a dark, cool and dry place which is free from rats or mice – they will nibble through the material!

It’s essential to store your tent poles and pegs away from your tent, just in case they corrode.

To keep from losing bits, or forgetting where you put them, we recommend storing your camping equipment together/in the same place.

We would also recommend making a checklist, so you can keep track of what you have and where you’ve stored it. Staying organised is the best way for a stress-free holiday!

Disabled Friendly

Sumners Ponds is a accessible fishery for those with a disability. The best lakes to fish are either Farm Pond or Betty’s Lake.

Farm Pond has a purpose built accessible platform with a ramp from the ajoining car park. This spaceous decked area has three large swims which are all disabled priority. The car park for this lake is directly next to the closest fishing swims so there is not far to travel with your equipment.

Betty’s Lake has two disabled parking areas which are very close to the nearest wood-chipped swims.
